Garrett Urges President Obama to Expand Disaster Declaration to Include Entire Fifth District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Scott Garrett (NJ-05) sent a letter to President Barack Obama requesting him to expand his request to FEMA for individual and public assistance to include Sussex, Passaic and Warren counties. Bergen County has already been declared as a disaster county.

The Honorable Barack Obama
President of the United States
The White House
Washington, DC 20500
Dear President Obama:
I would like to thank you for declaring the State of New Jersey a major disaster area and for recognizing the extent of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. In addition, I respectfully urge that you approve further disaster assistance for Passaic, Sussex and Warren Counties.
I understand that hazard mitigation grant assistance has been approved for the entire state, as well as individual and public assistance for several specific counties. The storm, however, caused widespread damage in other counties that were not granted such assistance at this time.
I have asked Governor Christie to submit a request for the designation of Warren, Sussex and Passaic Counties as part of the federal disaster area. I respectfully request that you expedite the approval of this request. My constituents in these counties are suffering from the same fuel shortages, lack of power, and damage that has afflicted other parts of the state.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and for your critical assistance to the people of New Jersey in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Member of Congress
